Ministry of Stories - Story Minister

Join our team of Story Ministers and help provide creative writing support for young people aged 8 - 18 in East London. Since 2010, our tip-top Story Ministers have supported hundreds of children in schools and at our out of school clubs, to explore writing and get excited about the stories they want to tell; building their confidence, self-expression and vital literacy skills. Participants have created their own Children’s Republic with laws, a secret service and soft rock national anthem; produced an album sold on iTunes and Amazon; written a soap opera with script writers from East Enders; and held a creative cabinet meeting at number 10.

You do not need to be a writer or have worked with young people to sign up as we provide full training including tips on mentoring techniques, behaviour management and safeguarding. As long as you have good written/spoken English skills and plenty of enthusiasm you can become a great mentor!

Workshops are approximately two hours long with 30 minute briefing and debrief sessions before and after. There are plenty of opportunities to volunteer. We run workshops through the school year, out of school clubs on Thursdays and Saturdays and special projects during school holidays. If you are looking for experience working with young people or a charity, or if you are eager to help create a positive impact at a local community level, then this could be the right opportunity for you.
