Labels Exhibition
The exhibition ‘Labels’ was constructed by Robert Clack School students explores the idea of stereotypes:
'There are two sides to everyone: you, and who people think you are. The problem is these two don’t really line up, and society starts to care less about your words and more about the words they gave you. Instead of your values, they see your hair colour. The way you look starts to matter more than the way you are. We don’t like that. No, we hate that. We hate a world where people are stopped on the streets for the colour of their skin, or where women are “asking for it” if they wear the wrong
clothing. So that’s what this exhibition is all about: showing you all these stereotypes that plague society, starting a discussion. The labels aren’t us, so let’s rip them off.’
During the private view on 2 March from 6-8pm, students will guide guests through the exhibition and be on hand to answer questions about the collected pieces. Food from different cultures will be available and students will be performing some rehearsed readings of their work. Entry is free.
This exhibition is part of the “Oxford House Supporting New Talent” programme. OH aims to give quality opportunities to emerging visual artists and performers by providing support and affordable space.
