Housing Options and Support Team

Tower Hamlets HOST is a Council-run service with the main aim of helping single adults keep their current home or find a new one. The service’s primary function is to prevent homelessness and if that does not work to provide advice and facilitate access to alternative housing options.

The service operates an outreach service in Probation working with ex-offenders. HOST are also part of the Royal London Hospital homeless discharge team helping homeless in-patients with advice and housing options. The service works closely with a range of vulnerable groups. These include people fleeing domestic violence, people with mental health problems, care leavers, offenders, rough sleepers, those in poor physical health, homeless teenagers, substance misusers, victims of gangs and hate crime. The service is the gateway into the borough’s standard homeless hostels for single adults and young people which has on-site keyworkers supporting people into independence. Hostel access is generally only available to people who have a local connection to the borough. HOST provides funding to help people from Tower Hamlets on low incomes access homes in the private rented sector providing the accommodation is affordable and they have demonstrable tenancy management skills. HOST also can provide statutory emergency accommodation subject to homeless legislation criteria.
